The examination areas of the now extended journeyman's examination include the handling of a complex customer order, refrigeration and air conditioning technology, and economics and social studies.
Trade apprenticeships are conducted exclusively in highly qualified specialist companies in the refrigeration engineering trade, supplemented by inter-company training (e.g., Maintal near Frankfurt) and instruction in state vocational schools (e.g., Leonberg).
